“JE PARLE FRANÇAIS AVEC MON ENFANT” PROGRAM TO BENEFIT FROM NEW COLLABORATION WITH CANADIAN PARENTS FOR FRENCH NOVA SCOTIA

Halifax, June 6, 2024:    Canadian Parents for French is supporting families with young children through the“French Footprints: FSL in the Early Years”, an impactful project which highlights the importance of early French-language learning at school and at home.  To enhance the “French Footprints” program in Nova Scotia, Canadian Parents for French, Nova Scotia (CPF NS) recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Équipe d’alphabétisation – Nouvelle-Écosse (ÉANÉ) to support and promote the program “Je parle français avec mon enfant, langue seconde” in the English public school system.

“Je parle français avec mon enfant, langue seconde” gives parents (or any significant adults) the language skills to support their young children learning French, as well as introducing them to the cultural components of Francophone culture. This program has been very successful in the CSAP schools.  Under the leadership of Apie N’Da, provincial coordinator, the program is now expanding to parents of children in early French immersion.

“Je parle français avec mon enfant, langue seconde” works with parents to develop the basic language skills needed to support their child’s language learning journey.  The program delivered over 21 weeks is free and class times are flexible.  Parents learn in small groups online or in a classroom setting.  The next session of the program begins in September 2024.

Rebecca Lancaster, Executive Director of CPF NS attended the ÉANÉ provincial meeting on June 1st.  “The ÉANÉ meeting was a wonderful opportunity to meet with the many educators who deliver the programming for the CSAP and French immersion schools,” said Rebecca Lancaster, “I feel that our two organizations have great potential to work together with parents of young families across Nova Scotia as they learn French.”
