Stephanie Carver to lead Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia
Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia members and partners in French second language education met at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Dartmouth Crossing this past September. Canadian Parents for French delegates participated in this year’s conference, CREATING CHANGE.
CPF Nova Scotia partnered with HeartWood Centre for Community Youth Development to offer a workshop on Youth Engagement and Volunteerism. Delegates spent the afternoon discussing how Canadian Parents for French – Nova Scotia can better engage youth participants while seeking to have more youth transition into voluntary roles within the organizations. The workshop gave delegates the opportunity to reflect on their current activities engaging youth, while developing strategies and plans to shift future practices.
At the Annual General Meeting, CPF Nova Scotia delegates voted in their new President, Stephanie Carver. She came to the East Coast from Ontario, having grown up in a bilingually rich community. French culture has always opened doors and offered exciting opportunities for her. She is excited to share her love of French culture and language with students in Nova Scotia. Stephanie has served as Vice President for the past three years. She has also volunteered for many years with the Girl Guides. Stephanie is head of marketing for a toy company in Halifax.
Dave Wentworth will stay on the Board as Past President for another year. Tony Orlando has moved into the role of Vice President. New members voted onto the Board were Jan Claes and Stephanie Peters. Jan Claes has been involved in French as a Second Language education in Nova Scotia for over 30 years. Since her retirement, she has continued to follow with great interest the new trends and best practices in the field of FSL education. She presently teaches FSL methods courses at the university level. Jan volunteered for CPF between 2009 and 2011 as Vice-President, and then President, for the Dartmouth Chapter. Stephanie Peters is a past employee of the CPF Nova Scotia and has remained involved with CPF since her departure. Stephanie currently works at a marketing agency in Dartmouth as a Strategist.
