It was a very special night for some exceptional volunteers at the Holiday Inn Halifax Harbourview. CPF Nova Scotia held its first ever volunteer recognition night to celebrate some of its exceptional and long serving volunteers.
Michael Johnston is a recently retired educator with the Halifax Regional School Board. He has been involved with the Dartmouth chapter for many years as a member of the executive and as a volunteer for many of their events. He has been involved with the organization of Camp du Soleil since his retirement. The Dartmouth chapter has organized Camp du Soleil for over twenty years, supported school extracurricular events, provided resources for classrooms and libraries, run poster competitions and done outreach into the schools to support French second language programs.
Rima Majaess is also an educator with the HRSB. She has studied at Mount Saint Vincent University, University of Toronto and the Université de Paris Sorbonne. She has been involved during her teaching career with Canadian Parents for French, Nova Scotia Language Teachers Association, Nova Scotia Teachers Union, Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers, Alliance Française, Goethe Institute and French for the Future. In her extra-curricular activities, she has involved students in the Model Parliament, the Model United Nations and Human Rights at the high school level. She has also been involved with training teachers with Project Overseas through the Canadian Federation of Teachers.
Rima Majaess has also supported Canadian Parents for French by being a volunteer and member since 1987. Mme Majaess received recognition for being a member for over 25 years with the organization. Michael was also honoured for 10 years of CPF membership and Joan Dobbie, President of CPF Halifax Peninsula and Mainland South for 15 years with the organization. All are valuable members of CPF and have contributed greatly to the organization in their own way.
